Cylinder Head Resurfacing:
Process of machining material from a cylinder head to straighten the head gasket sealing surface to facilitate gasket sealing and maximum head gasket life. Compression ratios may also be increased by this method.
Note:
Modern heads require very smooth surface finishes. Not only do cylinder heads warp but modern heads suffer from waviness brought on by high clamping loads attributed to Torque to Yield head bolts.
When head gaskets deteriorate these clamping loads are unevenly distributed to the cylinder heads.
Head gasket deterioration may be slowed by changing antifreeze on a regular basis.
Example: A vintage Chevy V-8 with 17 bolts per head torqued to 65 ft. lbs. each loads the single head with 178,500 lbs of clamping load.
17bolts x 10,500 lbs. clamping force of one bolt torqued to 65 ft. lbs. per bolt = 178,500lbs.of total clamping force per head. Today’s Torque to Yield head bolts exhibit even higher clamping loads.

Cylinder Head Pressure Test:
Finds cracks in cylinder heads that are leaking. Excellent for finding cracks in remote areas such as exhaust and intake ports, cam boss areas, press in valve guides, and pressed in valve seats.
